Terms of Service.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Lync coding time tracking service ("Service"), including our website, VS Code extension, and API. By using our Service, you agree to these Terms.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using any part of the Service, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you may not use the Service.
2. Description of Service
Lync provides coding time tracking and productivity analytics through:
- A VS Code extension that records coding activity
- A web dashboard for viewing analytics, streaks, and achievements
- An API for programmatic access to your data
- Data sync infrastructure between the extension and dashboard
The Service is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to introduce paid tiers or modify features with reasonable notice.
3. Account Registration
To use the Service, you must create an account using a valid email address or GitHub OAuth. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account credentials and API keys
- All activity that occurs under your account
- Providing accurate and up-to-date information
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized use
4. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems or other users' data
- Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Use automated tools to scrape or extract data beyond normal API usage
- Share your API keys with unauthorized parties
- Exceed published rate limits or abuse API endpoints
- Impersonate another person or entity
5. Your Data
You retain ownership of all data you submit to the Service, including coding session data and profile information. By using the Service, you grant us a limited license to process, store, and display your data solely to provide the Service to you.
You can export your data at any time through the profile settings. Upon account deletion, your data will be permanently removed after a 30-day grace period.

6. API Usage
Access to the Lync API is governed by:
- Authentication via API keys (format:
mk_live_*) - Published rate limits per endpoint
- Fair usage policies — excessive or abusive usage may result in throttling
API keys are sensitive credentials. You are responsible for keeping them secure and must not embed them in client-side code or public repositories.
7. Intellectual Property
The Service, including its design, code, branding, and documentation, is owned by Lync and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, or distribute any part of the Service without permission.
The Lync VS Code extension and dashboard are open source under the MIT License. Contributions are welcome and governed by the license terms.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
While we strive for accuracy, coding time calculations and analytics are approximate and should not be used as the sole basis for critical decisions.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Lync shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to loss of data, profits, or business opportunities.
10. Service Modifications
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes in advance.
11. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or engage in conduct that we determine is harmful to other users or the Service. You may terminate your account at any time through your profile settings.
Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately. Sections that by their nature should survive termination will continue to apply.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the dashboard or email. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
